Opaque materials such as: poster board, light cardboard, light plastic

Translucent/transparent materials such as: tissue paper, colored plastic sheets or plastic wrap, clear tape.

Brads or paper fasteners, hole punch, bendable drinking straws, tape, scissors

1. Cut out a character from poster board (you can work from a tracing).

2. Cut out eyes and features where you want the light to shine through. Use translucent or transparent materials to add color and feature designs.

3. Tape a drinking straw handle to the back.

4. For one with movable parts, you’ll need to cut out the parts individually.

5. Use the paper hole punch to make one hole in the movable part and another in the body where the part will be attached.

6. Use a paper fastener to join together the pieces.

7. Tape an extra straw handle to the back of the movable part.

Use your shadow puppet to act out and tell a story.
