I am the “Drama Mama” at a School of the Arts in rural S.C. I have been integrating Theatre with other subject areas at the elementary and middle school level for over 15 years. I say “Theatre” instead of “Drama” because Theatre incorporates all the other art forms and “Drama” is mainly about the language arts aspect of theatre.

     In my class we make masks, costumes, props and design special effects.We also dance and make and perform with puppets!We also read and write and act things out. This blog is about using Theatre Arts to teach.”Theatre Arts” will be referred to as “Creative Dramatics”since we will be focused on learning and not performance.Performance is the subject for another blog.

     We will explore literature,social studies,and science. Since I have been assigned a math remediation block this year, I will also be focusing on my path to integrating math and creative dramatics.
